Inevitable and Constant

This is one of my favorite photos of old Manchester. It shows marchers getting ready to join in Manchester’s (CT) Centennial Parade in front of Cheney Hall on Hartford Road in 1923, 26 years before I was born. It reminds me of the Walt Disney movie, Pollyanna, which I saw at the State Theater in 1960. If you’ve ever seen that movie, you might know why I say that. It also reminds me that Manchester before I was born wasn’t quite the same place it was when I grew up there, just like it isn’t quite the same place today. Change is inevitable and constant. Accepting that immutable fact of life is necessary if one wishes to live happily, but that’s not always easy to do.
