An Explorer Without a Map

Over the years, I tried many times to write my novel An Unknown Soldier. I would sit down with an idea that I was sure would keep me going to the end of the story, but then, usually after several pages, I’d realize I was lost again. Writing a novel was like walking through woods nobody had ever entered before. I was like an explorer without a map, continuing along until I didn’t know where I was or where I was heading next. Frustrated and discouraged, I would stop rather than futilely going nowhere with every word.
